How do I get in to Boston Latin Academy?
Boston Latin Academy is a Boston Public exam school that accepts new students for grades 7 and 9. Students are admitted based on results of an entrance test, called the Independent Schools Entrance Exam (ISEE), and grade point average (GPA). Each of these accounts for 50% of a student’s score. See the BPS website for more information.
UPDATE: On June 30, 2010 the Boston School Committee voted to approve the Superintendent’s recommended change in the residency date for application to exam schools. Effective immediately, students must both reside in Boston and prove residency by the first Friday in November of a given year. This means that students taking the test in November 2010 for admission to one of the district’s three exam schools in September 2012 must demonstrate Boston residency by Friday, November 4, 2011.
When do ISEE exam results come back for my prospective student?
ISEE results are mailed directly to the family home from the Boston Public Schools Court Street Office.
TRANSPORTATION: How do I find out about buses for my child?
Eligible students in grades 7 and 8 take yellow school buses to school. Eligible students in grades 9-12 take MBTA buses. You should receive an Official Transportation Notification from Boston Public Schools that will tell you your child’s transportation information. For information about MBTA bus routes that service the school, go to www.mbta.com or call 617-222-3200.
Late buses (yellow charter buses) arrive at the entrance of BLA at 2:40-2:45pm to transport students who were participating in activities. They are available ton Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
For additional information, contact the BPS transportation department at 617-635-9520, the Boston Public Schools Hotline at 617-635-9046 or go to the BPS Transportation website.
Whom do I talk to in the school about transportation and MBTA passes?
Richard Sullivan, Assistant Headmaster, supervises students at the bus stops in front of the school in the mornings and at dismissal. He also takes care of the distribution of MBTA passes to students.Although we do our best to help resolve transportation problems, we have no control over bus scheduling. We recommend reporting problems directly to Boston Public School’s Transportation Department at 617-635-9520.
My child is having problems with other kids on the bus. Whom do I talk to?
You should talk with the administrator in charge of your child’s grade. You can find that person’s contact info below.
