Here is where you should send your Senior Writing Requirements: two 500-word essays chosen from the “common essay” reading list. More information is on the summer reading list.

Where to send your essays is divided alphabetically by your last name:

Announcing the Summer 2011 BLA Required Reading!

We are happy to announce the Summer 2011 BLA Required Reading books and, especially, to announce the winner of the Summer 2011 Common Reading Book vote: Neil Swidey’s The Assist: Hoops, Hope and the Game of Their Lives.

Please note that there are some important changes to this summer’s reading lists. The changes have been made to assure that our students complete their required reading and maybe even have fun while doing it.

Most importantly, students this summer are to complete DIALECTICAL JOURNALS as they read. So, pick up a new notebook, read the directions on your summer reading list and get to work! These notebooks are due on the first day of school.

Some other updates are:
1. Summer reading will be worth 25% of your Term One grade in your English classes in the fall.
2. All non-AP courses will read three books: a common grade-level book; the common reading book and a book from a list of books that match that grade’s theme. This year, the choice book MUST BE FROM THE LIST.

So, get to the library or bookstore, grab your notebook and enjoy!

Girls and Boys Track teams both win City Championships

The BLA Boys’ and Girls’ Track teams are City Champions!

Latin Academy boys and girls both finished first in the two-day city championship meet at the Reggie Lewis Center, defeating O’Bryant for the first time in years.

According to Latin Academy coach Brian Leussler, “It’s a big accomplishment, I really owe it to the team. A lot of dedicated kids who do indoor, outdoor, who have been running since seventh grade — they deserve it this year.”
